Tiny Art
That’s what I used to think. But art is becoming more accessible, though I still shy away from entering art galleries for fear of looking like a noob. 😅
So, I’ve been thinking about tiny art—little pieces with big personality, presented in spaces that feel welcoming and familiar.
I have this idea of a tiny museum that co-exists in a space that’s not intimidating. Imagine spending an afternoon in your favourite café—it’s your space, you're familiar with it, and you don’t fear it. And sitting right at your favourite spot is a little piece of art. Not big enough to invade your space, but obviously there.
That thought stayed with me as I created the physical drawings of Oddjects. Each drawing measures 5x5cm, done in archival ink on rag paper. The natural texture of the paper means the ink doesn’t land smoothly, perfect~!
Though small, they required more effort than I’d imagined! Even with the help of a magnifying lamp and the finest pens, each piece was drawn with shaky hands as I held my breath. Then, to achieve the imperfect edges, every canvas was carefully scored and hand-torn a few millimetres at a time.
Framed in natural teak, the final pieces measure around 12x12cm, still small~!
A total of 100 Oddjects will be drawn and framed. And once all hundred are complete, Oddjects will be heading back to the drawing board to grow into something else.
Super excited to see where it’ll go~
