Yes, we are~ but this time, it’s a wrap~!
The Wild series has been a big part of 2026 so far, and as with all things, the time has come to say “thank you, next~!” When I started drawing and painting, there was a huge struggle of trying to achieve realism and perfection. Hours were poured into researching and amassing a tonne of tools and resources.
The outcome was forced, unnatural, and honestly… not even pretty.
Developed as a transition idea from Something in the Woods, Wild was created more for myself. The point was to keep creating without the pressure of trying to be perfect.
I’ve had comments from different people identifying the plants differently, some thought the bougainvillea were tulips, some thought the dandelion were mimosas. I loved it~! Drawing from memory meant some things were bound to look weird. Weird is good, awkward should be the new comfortable. Being unpredictable should be the norm.
The world is not short of beautiful things. I love looking at beautiful things. But on the flip side, I enjoy creating weird things more. Why? Because, why not? We grew up with ever-changing standards of beauty on what’s good or bad, what is acceptable and what is trash. Every time, I get anxious about having to drop whatever I just learnt because the world has already moved on. And every time, it feels like I’m back at square one. Now, with AI, striving for perfection seems even harder.
But you know what AI hasn’t mastered? Weird. Because weird happens when we question logic. Weird happens when we don’t try to fit in with the crowd. Weird happens when we let our imagination go wild.
So, the next time insecurity knocks on my door, it can kiss my sign, “Gone Wild.”
Footnote: This series was never intended to be framed but when Felix came across a double-glass framed artwork at the framers, ding~! “This would be perfect for Wild.” So a selection of 6 pieces have been framed in custom double-glass and teak wood.
